RUSSELL Crowe is almost unrecognisable as he films scenes for Noah.
The New Zealand born actor plays the ark-builder in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical blockbuster, due out in March next year.
Walking around the New York set he looked decades older than his 48 years, helped by ragged clothes and the scruffy beard he’s grown for the role.
The epic tale is Aronfsky’s first film since Oscar-winning Black Swan and the epic reimagining is reported to have a whopping budget of £78million.
Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone and Anthony Hopkins are also on board.
The story of Noah’s apocalyptic flood visions which prompt him to build an ark to save his family and the earth’s land-dwelling animal species will have a modern twist.
Russell has been working hard to bulk up for the role – by going to the gym and out on bike rides inbetween filming.
Despite his new look, he’s regularly spotted out on his bike around New York, and the actor even had a laugh about the people trying to following him on their bikes.
He tweeted: “ride turned in to a bit of fun, certainly upped the speed, did the 11.6km in 30 mins, only 1 pap stayed on pace,I congratulated him.”
Russell recently opened up about his split from wife of 9 years, Danielle Spencer, saying he missed his two sons Charles, eight, and Tennyson, six.
It is thought his filming schedule and time away from the marital home played a part in the break-up.
